About

Welcome to Clefhat — a tool designed to support music composition through intelligent chord suggestions.

The chord suggester helps you explore harmonies for a given melody, whether you're building an accompaniment or experimenting with reharmonisation.

My story

I'm a classically trained pianist, but my early training focused primarily on performance rather than analysis or composition. While I understood fundamentals like scales and intervals, I had little experience creating music from scratch.

My interest in composition grew after listening to pieces like Merry Go Round of Life and One Summer's Day. What stood out to me was how expressive melodies were elevated by rich, extended harmonies.

I became particularly interested in how these more complex chords—beyond basic major and minor triads—could enhance a melody.

When I tried to analyse and recreate similar harmonies myself, I found the process slow and manual. Identifying all possible chords that fit a melody note required significant effort, especially when accounting for chords outside the key.

To solve this, I built a simple program to automatically generate compatible chords for a given note. This eventually became the foundation for the chord suggester tool.

The goal of Clefhat is to make this exploration faster and more accessible, helping musicians focus on creativity rather than manual calculation.

This is just the starting point—future features will aim to support deeper composition workflows and musical experimentation.
